Dear Jamie –
First of all, I’m sorry to hear about your discouragement. It’s got to be scary to be looking for a job for so long and still not be employed. I meditated about what to write to you. My logical brain wanted to give you job hunting advice. However, my intuitive side was encouraging me to write about the power of prayer and surrender. So I’m trusting in that answer.
I love the prayer that Wayne Dyer says when he’s feeling stuck on some issue in his life.
“I have not been able to resolve these issues in my life and I have used every technique I know. I would like to show my trust in the Divine force by simply turning them over to your Divine hands. As I do this I know that the Divine force that is you, God, is also me, and I trust that this action will lead to a resolution of these problems.”
What Dyer suggests sounds so easy. Simply, “turning them over to your Divine Hands.” We often refer to this as "Let go and let God." I remember when I first heard that concept, it scared me. It seemed to mean that I was letting go of all control. I thought that I had to give up any role in the outcome of my problem. I expected that if I was finally successful at this surrendering process, God and his angels would recognize this and immediately swoop in and claim, "She finally let it go! Give her what she wants!"
All of us have some challenge in our life that causes us pain or concern. I know that yours is currently being out of work, plus the resulting financial stress. I’m sure you’ve done all the helpful things for job seekers: networked, talked to a career counselor, told all your family and friends what you’re looking for, etc. What if you’ve done everything? Keep doing it and add in another factor…surrender.
For the next few weeks I'd like you to try an experiment. For that limited period of time, I want you to surrender your concern to God. In effect saying to God, "I have struggled and suffered with this problem for too long and I don't know what to do. I am releasing it to you and ask for your intervention and wisdom so I may experience peace and harmony in my life."
Your job now is to let it go and not to worry and angst. You may find yourself becoming concerned with the issue from time to time. Simply say to yourself, "I've tried everything else and now I'm trusting God." Know that Divine wisdom is flowing through you at all times. Know there is an abundance of love, help, healing and wisdom that are working with you to provide a solution.
As you practice this letting go process, pay attention to any insights, hunches, or changes in attitude that occur. The answers to your request for a resolution to the problem may not come in the form you expect, but it always comes.
