Dear Lynn – I’m really new at learning to trust my intuition. Are you supposed to hear an inner voice or is it more of a feeling in your gut? I have to admit, most of the time I feel like I’m making it up!
Thanks for asking this question! I think sometimes it’s important to go back to review the basics for everyone who reads this newsletter.
You can view a quick response here. I taught an intuition development class earlier this year in Tokyo and answered this question via video in a beautiful Japanese garden.
Here are 7 tips for listening to and acting on your fabulous inner wisdom:
1) Intuition Comes in Many Forms
There’s no ONE way that’s the right way to receive intuitive wisdom. It may come in different forms depending on your situation. Begin to pay attention to your feelings. What do they say about the decision or issue you’re facing? You might receive an image or symbolic picture that represents an answer to your concern. Dreams, hunches, knowings, gut feelings and other physical sensations are also giving you messages. Try practicing in some low-risk situations at first. As you mentioned, you may feel like you’re making it up at first. Intuition is like any skill, the more you use it, the stronger it will become!
2) Move Towards Your Enthusiasm
The word “enthusiasm” originates from the Greek root, entheos. It means, “God within” or “guidance within.” What are you curious about? What excites you? What do you want to do more of? What comes easily to you? These are critical clues from your intuition about the right endeavors to pursue.
3) Intuition is Your Inner GPS
I’m a big believer in the idea that what we focus on, we attract into our lives. When you’re clear what you want, your intuition will give you nudges, messages, and ideas about the right direction to follow to achieve these goals. Spend time writing about what you want. Create a vision board.
Expand your ideas. Your intuition acts as your inner GPS and will show you the quickest route to where you want to go in life.

4) Ask Your Intuition Questions
I like open-ended questions when working with my intuition. I’ve found that if you ask questions that evoke a “yes” or “no” answer you don’t get as much information. Questions that begin with the following get more of a response and greater detail from my intuition. “How can I…(attract more clients, make more money)” “What should I know about…(this situation, this person, this job?)” Then listen for the answers. The answers may not come immediately. They often come later in the day and just pop into your consciousness as a knowing or inner voice. (See #1.)
5) The Power of Your Imagination
Visualization is a powerful tool used by many successful people from all walks of life. I talk about it extensively in the teleclass on “Advanced Manifesting Techniques” Hold the image of what you want to create in your mind. Use your emotions to feel what it’s like to successfully have this situation in your life. Over and over in my intuitive readings, I hear the message that this is one of the most powerful tools in creating a life we love. When you’re clear about what you want, your intuition can more easily guide you.
6) Don’t Talk Yourself Out of What You Want
Focus on what you want, not what you don’t want. Holding positive thoughts about your goals will help you attract the circumstances to achieve them. It’s very difficult to make a positive change in your life when you are holding thoughts like, “I’m not good enough.” “I’m not lucky.” Or, “I don’t how to…” I wrote more about this in a recent “Ask Lynn” column.
7) Take Action!
Your intuition will grow when you take action on the wisdom you receive. You don’t need to make major changes based on your intuition. Small steps are important. I like asking my intuition the question, “What my right next step?”
Then I do it! Susan, I suggest you do, too!
