How can I Access My Inner Healer?

I am currently dealing with MS and being in a wheelchair with constant pain. I have done deep emotional and mental healing on myself for a very long time and have tried just about everything to heal my physical body. I’m not getting clear info from my spirit on how to heal. I know I deserve to be happy and healthy.

I can only begin to imagine how difficult this is. Especially when you feel you’ve done everything right to try to heal and things aren’t consistently better. Honestly, I wish I had a magic answer for you. A one-size-fits-all, “do this and everything will improve.” Unfortunately, health challenges can be very complicated issues and don’t usually lend themselves to easy answers.

That said, I thought the best way to respond was to write about how to access your “Inner Healer.” Hippocrates, considered the father of western medicine, stated, “Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing forces within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.”

Your intuition is a rich source of information about your current state of wellness. It lets you know when something is out of balance in your life by causing stress, pain or discomfort. It’s saying, in effect, “Pay attention. I want to help you get back into alignment and good health.”

What Are Your Beliefs Telling You?

E.B., I like what you said about deserving to be happy and healthy. That’s a good place to begin. I believe that health and happiness is our natural state. Our Inner Healer is always working with us to bring us well-being and happiness. When we say things to ourselves such as “I’ll never get better.” “Nothing works for me.” “I’ll just be stuck with a sick body for the rest of my life,” or statements similar to this, we’re blocking the flow of intuitive wisdom.

Positive statements open you to the flow of intuitive ideas from your Inner Healer that can help your body get well. Try replacing any of your negative thoughts with one of these:

  • I listen to my body and pay attention to its messages. I’m being guided to good health.
  • I love and respect my body and allow it to heal.
  • Divine wisdom resides in every cell of my body. It is constantly at work restoring my health and well-being.
  • My inner dialog is loving and gentle. It constantly guides me to my true state of wellness and healing.
  • I know I have the power to get well again.
  • I trust my body’s innate wisdom that always guides me towards health.

Questions to Ask Your Inner Healer

During a time in my life that I was ill, I had many conversations with my Inner Healer (IH.) One thing that was constantly communicated was that good questions meant I’d get good answers. I learned not to ask things like “Why am I sick?” My IH insisted that I keep my focus on wellness, not sickness.

That said, here are some questions that elicited the most helpful responses:

  • What could I do to feel better today?
  • What’s going on with my body (or a specific part of the body?)
  • What steps can I take to help me return to health and wellness?
  • What do I need to know to restore balance?
  • What specific foods, medicines or healing strategies would work well for my body right now?
  • What do I need to know?

Techniques to Get in Touch With Your Intuitive Wisdom

 Consult Your Body: Instead of fighting with your pain and discomfort, try accepting it for even a few moments at a time. Sometimes your body just needs you to be still and quiet, and tune in to what it’s trying to communicate. What does it need right now? As you listen, you’ll find that your symptoms have a language all their own and they want to converse with you. Approach this dialog with respect. Trust that your body wants to heal and will guide you towards what it needs.

Become Your Own Healer: To do this exercise, sit or lie quietly and take a few, deep, calming breaths. When you feel centered, begin to scan your body with “intuitive eyes.” Start at the top of your head and work your way down your body. You’re looking for any places of discomfort or any places where the energy feels different. When you find a place that feels “off” or needing attention, rest there and breathe warmth, love and healing into that location. You could ask this area, “What do you need?” and listen for the answer. When you feel that the answer or the healing energy is sufficient, continue to scan the rest of your body and repeat as needed.

Recognize the Power of Your Dreams: Dreams provide amazing answers about health and illness. Before you go to sleep, ask for a dream that will help you feel better or provide needed insight. The old adage “sleep on it” holds a lot of truth. In those periods of slumber the wisdom of your Inner Healer can rise from your sub-conscious and provide answers that your conscious mind needs. Keep a dream journal beside your bed. Before you go to sleep, write down a question. For example, “Should I see an acupuncturist about my illness?” Or, “”What would be the most beneficial thing to do to help my body heal?” Or, “What’s my next best step to have a healthy body?” The next morning, before you become fully awake, write down any dreams or dream fragments before getting out of bed. If nothing comes during the first night, try repeating the question every night for several days until your answer comes. There are many great books, as well as articles, on the Internet that will help you with dream interpretation.

Lastly, Have Patience: I’m a big believer in miracles. I think it’s entirely possible that you could be healed or go into remission quickly. However, I also know that most of us have a different experience on the path to getting well. It’s often two steps forward and one step back (or worse) at times. It hard not to interpret this very normal rhythm as, “I’m not getting better!” Your Inner Healer will always encourage patience, hope and love. That’s what I’m wishing for you, too.
