5 New Ideas to Help You Get Moving Again

1) Don’t Wait for the Confidence Fairy!steppingstone

Your intuition is telling you it’s time for a change, but you feel scared and begin to doubt yourself. You’re not alone! Almost all us feel this anxiety before we do something new. It would be wonderful if there were such a thing as a “Confidence Fairy” who would sprinkle self-assurance and energy over you as you think about making a change in your life. Alas, the only way to gain that confidence is to begin to do the thing you’re scared to do! In other words, feel the fear and do it anyway!


2) Do Some Information Gathering

You may feel stuck because you’re trying to make a decision without enough information. Begin to move out of your comfort zone by checking out some options. For example, say you’re thinking about a job change, you could…hire a career coach, do some informational interviews, take a class that will broaden your skills or talk to someone who has made a similar life choice. What happens is that you’ll begin to feel more comfortable. New options and possibilities will present themselves and you can respond to them in a more positive frame of mind.


3) What Does Your Life Look Like When You’re Unstuck?

I recently attended a workshop with Rev. Michael Beckwith. He had a great line that he repeated several times, “Pain pushes until the vision pulls.” When you’re in a stuck place you’re in pain. You’re uncomfortable. Your Divine guidance is telling you that you need to move in a new direction. That pain is there to give you a kick in rear end! Simultaneously it’s also giving you a vision of what you’d like to have happen. If the above-mentioned fairy could wave a wand and tell you that you could have whatever you wished for, what would it be?


4) Be Brutally Honest With Yourself

I’d be willing to bet that when you read the last line in the paragraph above a vast majority of you had a little negative thought bubble appear over your head saying “But I DON’T KNOW what I want.” I’d like to challenge that thought. If you DID know what would you want? Contemplate that for a bit. Watch the other thoughts that emerge. If you’ve been feeling stuck for a while, you’ll likely discover that there’s a whole crowd of negative thoughts such as “I’m not good enough.” “I don’t have the money.” “I’m too old (young) etc.” Here’s where the honesty comes in. Do you want to argue in favor of your limitations or are you willing to make a choice to think bigger and challenge those thoughts?


5) Surrender and Ask for Guidance

I’m reading the book “Change Me Prayers” by Tosha Silver. She writes about a form of prayer and meditation that encourages surrender. “By allowing the Divine to lead the way, we can finally put down the heavy load of hopes, fears, and opinions about how things should be. We learn how to be guided to take the right actions at the right time, and to enjoy the spectacular show that is our life.” Take time for meditation each day. Ask for guidance, wisdom and flow AND the courage to act on the insights you receive. The Divine wants you to love your life and offer your gifts.
